Cambodian Engagement Ceremony

I've been a horrible blogger. I know, I know. To make up for it, here are some shots from my recent Engagement Ceremony this past holiday.

An engagement ceremony is extremely important in most Asian cultures. It's a traditional event which states that the young couple will become man and wife- a public commitment, per se. Although this formality is practiced throughout eastern and southeastern Asia, I've never known this to be enforced in the western world. Not until my father very strongly pointed out that he never recognized (or will recognize) my Americanized engagement (Cristhian down on bended knee asking my hand for marriage). I digress. This website explains the happenings of an engagement ceremony better than I ever can. Please hop over!

In my opinion, the marital advice segment of the ceremony was the most heartfelt. I could really feel the love and seriousness of my families' opinions. A number of relatives- both single and attached- gave advice on how to keep our relationship strong.

To all those who were able to enjoy the day with Cristhian and I, thank you. We greatly appreciated the time and effort you played in part to our day. Those who weren't able to make the trek to the midwest, it's ok! We'll see you next summer!

  1. What you said made a lot of sense. But, think about this, what if you added a little content? I mean, I dont want to tell you how to run your blog, but what if you added something to maybe get peoples attention? Just like a video or a picture or two to get people excited about what youve got to say. In my opinion, it would make your blog come to life a little bit.

    1. Hi Phazer,

Thanks for your feedback and I've taken what you've written into consideration for future posts. I don't know too much about Cambodian/SE Asian rituals, but I made an update to the entry in order to better explain the reasoning behind my engagement ceremony. I also included a link explaining its importance in Cambodian culture. It's not much, but I hope it suffices. :)

      Have a great day!
