Mia: 6 Month Update

Height/Weight: At her six month appointment, Mia lost some weight, 15 lbs 12 oz, and didn't grow in length, 26"! I'm thinking that her loss in weight (4 oz) is due to all her extra activity.

Sleeping: When Mia was 1.5 months, she slept through the night (10p-5a, 5:15a-8a) with serious ease. It was incredible. BUT during her 4 month regression, Cristhian and I were up at crazy hours of the night (wakes up at 10:30p, 1a, 4:30a and 6a) settling this crazy baby. It got better at 5.5-6 months (wakes up at 11:30p, 4:30a and 6a to nurse, but pretty much goes down from 8p-7/8a)... but I need sleep! Cristhian and I decided to sleep train her this month. Not only am I keeping her in her crib for naps and for her nighttime sleep, I'm trying to teach this little bugger to calm herself down. Hopefully we have good news for our 7 month update.

Social: Mia has started to notice strangers. She does NOT smile or socialize, but she definitely acknowledges their existence. Hah. Also, while visiting relatives in Lowell, Amelia recognized a lot of our family members. They were incredibly surprised to see Mia's willingness to play with them. It was sweet!

Likes: iPhones, iPads, laptops and finger foods!

Dislikes: Going down for a nap!

Crying: She's done a lot better with crying. Now my baby seldom cries! The only time she wails is when she's overtired and fighting her nap.

Feeding: Mia's first food was avocado! She didn't really like it, but alas. Food is food and it is a necessity to our well-being.

Clothes: Amelia is in size 9 and 9-12 months for clothing and is still wearing size 3 Huggies Little Movers.

Baby Gear: Mia likes being worn in our SakuraBloom ring sling; she loves her new best friend, a Jellycat Lamb (affectionately known as Latte); her beloved Wubbanubs Rupert, Ellie (RIP) and Jorge have been her #1 since birth... Baby Einstein Exersaucer and her Britax B-Agile stroller/tray. We could not imagine living without any of these!

Milestones: Little One is crazy with her pumps and army crawl- it is the funniest thing to watch!

Postpartum: I'm doing 100% better than when I was discharged from the hospital. It honestly feels crazy knowing that I've raised a daughter who's now half a year old. Also, I'm still breastfeeding every 3 hours and sorta cluster feeding in the evening

Mia: 5 Month Update

Height/Weight: We haven't had Mia checked since her 4 month wellness, but I'm sure she's well over 15 lbs. She's also a tad longer than she was last month since her 6 month outfits are now too short or tight!

Sleeping: Hallelujah! Mia's naps are more consistent, but are in NO particular order. She does four 20-45 minute naps and one 1.5-2 hour nap. My current gripe is with her nighttime sleep regression. Mia's usually down by 7/8, but she'll wake up at 1 and again at 5- like she was a newborn. More often than not, I stuff her pacifier in her mouth (we no longer have to rock her to sleep) and she'll drift back to sleep within minutes. It's just physically draining and extremely difficult to fall back asleep. Cristhian and I had only had two REALLY bad nights of restlessness and sleeplessness where Mia was up every 1-2 hours from 1a-6a. I honestly can't wait for her to sleep through the night again. The NP recommended we sleep train her since Mia doesn't need the calories, per se, and because she's just comfort nursing.

Social: Amelia loves faces, but only on her own time. She's received so much attention from family members, but her delight is hit or miss. Regardless of the person (even if it's me!), she'll give you her full fledged attention with glee and giddy or act nonchalantly with wandering eyes. That said, she's starting to interact with Kuro, Otie and Zorro! She laughs a whole-belly-laugh when she notices one moving about and she's started to thrash her hands on their belly or back when they're close enough! One more thing, she's recently started talking to the babies on the diapers/wipes boxes. Also, when Phou R plays "peek-a-boo" with her, Mia laughs hysterically! Too bad it doesn't work with anyone else!

Likes: STANDING!, FaceTime with grandma and grandpa, gnawing on her hands/feet, blowing raspberries, spitting on everyone who holds her and sleeping on her side!

Dislikes: She's pretty much "over" her toys. //sigh I even bought her a new teething strawberry vibrator and she could not care less!

Crying: Crying is basically nonexistent with the exception of super long, as in 4+ hours, car rides. The days where she would cry almost half the day is gone!

Feeding: My little girl still nurses 8x a day on one breast for less than 5 minutes. The NP recommended starting solids between 4-6 months. That said, I'd rather start closer to the 6 month mark and when she can sit up unassisted for at least a minute. I'm really interested in Baby Led Weaning, but Cristhian's determined to start with purees. We'll see! I've bought a few books to help with our food journey. I'm determined not to have an picky eater!

Clothes: Mia is currently wearing size 9 months, but can fit size 12 months, in clothing and in size 3 Pampers Swaddlers! She is SO long!!

Baby Gear: Bumbo! I can't imagine teaching Mia how to sit up if we didn't have our Bumbo. BUT, I'm kinda regretting buying the Bumbo over the Ingenuity because baby girl has thick thighs!

Milestones: She's FINALLY fallen asleep in her car seat!! and unassisted at that! Granted, she's only done it 2-3x, but I'm still elated. She's also started eying our sandwiches, soups, etc when we're eating and has found her feet and started to nom on 'em. Mia is also sitting up unassisted for about 30 seconds to a minute!

Postpartum: I am completely better. My overall swelling has significantly decreased so I can wear my wedding rings again! Also, my pelvic bone has completely healed so my activity level has gone way, way, way up! That said, I'm down to 124-126 lbs. I'm thinking of treating myself to a Fitbit so I can gauge my activity level/strength before I join a gym.

Mia: 4 Month Update

Height/Weight: As of her 4 month check up, Mia is 14 lbs and 9 oz and a whopping 25-3/4". She's consistently marked on the 90th/50th percentile breastfeeding chart. I love it! My little lamb isn't so little anymore!

Sleeping: Mia's naps are still kinda all over the place, but are becoming more and more predictable. I thought I'd be able to get her accustomed to a schedule (awake for 1.5 hours, asleep for 1.5 hours and repeat), but I guess she doesn't flow to that sorta rhythm. I've been following her and reading her signs... Hopefully I'll have her following some sort of routine by the time she's 6 months old.

Social: My little one is great when handled by familiar and unfamiliar faces. If you say her favorite word (which is, "hi!" by the way) she'll undoubtedly laugh and laugh and laugh. It's really silly and endearing!

Likes: Her Wubbanub pacifiers (specifically Rupert the Lamb, Jorge the Monkey and Ellie the Elephant), sucking on her fingers/hands... including her thumb!, playing on her Kick 'N' Play, O-Ball Blue and Orange and playing with Yeay C.

Dislikes: Include changing outfits... ! Well, she'll let you know if she doesn't like something. She's still wicked particular!

Crying: Lately, she doesn't cry so much. It's a big difference from what I've been accustomed to! (Or maybe I've misread her cries? Possibly.) Understandably, the only times she's shed tears was when she got her recent vaccinations and also on a 6-turned-9 hour car ride to Pennsylvania. She still fusses (no tears!) when being put down for a nap, but otherwise, she's pretty content overall.

Feeding: We've gotten her nursing schedule down to a science. Depending on if she wakes up at 7/8a, she'll eat at 10/11a, 4/5p and 7/8p with a dream feed at 9/10p and she'll wake up at 12/1a and 5/5:30a to comfort nurse (As soon as she hits the nipple, she's out! Should we be sleep training? I can't bare the thought of letting her cry it out though.).

Clothes: My little monster is in 6 and 6-9 month clothing!! It's insane how long she's gotten since birth! She's in size 3 diapers, too, now.

Milestones: She rolls from back to tummy, has good head control and gnaws on hands!

Postpartum: I've gotten sooo much better. I can now say that I've completely passed my postpartum depression and can fully enjoy my daughter. My self-image can be better... but oh well. On that note, I'm 20 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight. TMI: I got my first postpartum period! It was heavy for the first day and was progressively lighter and lighter with occasional spotting here and there. //sigh Ohhhhh if only I were like some women whose weight whisked away with breastfeeding and whose periods were delayed a full year!

Mia: 3 Month Update

Height/Weight: Thanks to all the breastmilk she receives, Mia has grown exponentially! As of her last weight visit, she's 12 lbs 15 oz and is 25" long! I can't believe how much my little love bug has grown in such a short span!

Sleeping: Mia's naps are still off the wall... At the first sign of tiredness, I try to get her down for a nap. It's a good 10-15 minute struggle. Plus, if I try to place her in her bassinet, she'll wake up within 15 minutes (swaddled or not, it's the same!)... and she's SO cranky! The only way she naps until satiated is if it's in my, or someone else's, arms. I need a better strategy! On the other hand, nighttime sleeping has been a dream! She goes down at 9, dream feeds at 10:30/11 and 4:30/5, then goes back to sleep until 7/8.

Social: Mia Bear is extremely receptive to those around her. She stares at Kuro, Otie and Zorro when they walk by. She even listens and bobbles her head when hearing her grandparents or daddy talk. She loves to coo as well! She's recently started entertaining herself by babbling and playing with her fingers. It's so funny!

Likes: Mia LOVES her pacifiers... LOVES them!, sucking on her hands/gagging herself (ugh!), singing and story time with mommy, talking with her grandparents, staring at daddy, kicking any and everything she can.

Dislikes: This little girl HATES being put down for a nap, being startled, being cradled in one's arms, lying down a certain way, being left alone for more than 5 minutes... She kinda doesn't like most things. She's a very particular baby! She WILL let you know if she doesn't like what you're doing.

Crying: I would say Mia cries for 40% of our day. My parents tell me that Mia cries so much more than I ever did.

Feeding: She still nurses on one breast at a time for 5-10 minutes. It's hard to imagine she gains weight so well with such little feeds, but she does!

Clothes: Mia is currently sporting size 6 months clothing! She wears some 6-9 months, but 6 months fits her perfectly at the moment. I can't believe how big she is! She's is in between sizes for diapers. In 2s, she has far-reaching poop explosions and in 3s, she... just looks so dang weird!

Postpartum: I'm nearly completely over my postpartum issues. Things are slowly coming together and I can't be happier about that.

Mia: 2 Month Update

Little Mia Bear doin' tummy time!

Recovery: As of two months, I can say that I feel completely recovered from all complications except for two- my groin is still unbelievably pained and so is my TMI: labia!

Breastfeeding: We have this breastfeeding thing down, I think!

Weight: I can be anywhere between 128-132 lbs on any given day. I can say that I 100% fit into my 2-4s... I just don't look like how I used to look. :(

Height/Weight: As of her 6 week wellness visit, Mia Bear is 11 lbs 5 oz and 22-3/4 in long!

Routine: Her routine is still kinda all over the place. We have some good days and some really, really bad days. For the most part, she nurses, plays, sleeps... and repeats.

Sleeping: My little girl still nurses every three hours during the day and at 2:30-3:30 in the middle of the night. Nap time is up in the air... but with a schedule, she's less apt to fight.

Feeding: She nurses and gains incredibly well for a tike who nurses on one breast at a time!

Sizes: She's in 3-6 months clothing currently. Crazy, isn't it?!

Milestones: This month has been insane! My little girl started cooing and silently laughing- so darn sweet! Her cries are distinguished enough that even Cristhian can tell what she needs (with some help from mommy)! That said, Mia's wicked receptive to those around her. She "speaks" to mommy, daddy, her brothers and other relatives when they're 2 feet or less from her. She even "watches" TV... but I think it's because she loves listening! She's also got serious head control- a jungle gym is in our near future! She also loves to stand- assisted, of course!
